June 24, 2012 Twins 10, Phillies 5

Despite outhitting the Twins 13-10, the Phils fall way short in the run collumn. Two reasons - the Twins poke out four homeruns (two by Josh Willingham) and make the most of their chances by only leaving oneruner on base the entire game!

Josh Willingham launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Target Field as the
Minnesota Twins beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the count of 10 to 5.

It was a good day for Minnesota thanks to Willingham. He clubbed a solo home
run in the 4th inning, stroked a one-base hit which brought home a run in the
6th inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 7th inning. Philadelphia had
13 hits in the game while Minnesota had 10, but Minnesota had the more timely
hits.

The victory was credited to Scott Diamond(4-1) who went 5 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 2 runs. Joe Blanton(2-6) was the loser. He served up 3 homeruns in
his 5 and 2/3 innings.

'I've spent a lot of time in the cage and made some adjustments and they've
paid off,' Willingham said. 'I just take the same approach up there. I don't
overanalyze it. I go up there, see the ball and try to put a good swing on
it.'

June 13, 2012 Phillies 8, Twins 7

Jim Thome of the Phillies makes the most of the play in the AL parks, stepping into the DH position in the lineup in full force. Thome had a homerun in the Orioles series and smacks two over the wall today, none bigger than his shot to lead off the 9th to give the Phils an 8-7 lead . The Phils did lead the game entering the bottom of the 7th inning 7-1, but the Twins came back with six runs in the 7th and 8th innings off of a tiring Cole Hamels and the Bastard (aka Antonio Bastardo) to tie the game.

Thanks to Thome' 9th inning heriocs, rookie Joe Savery, being in the right place at the right time, gets his first major league win.

June 13, 2012 Braves 2, Yankees 0 (Tim Hudson no-hitter)

Braves starter Tim Hudson joins Colby Lewis, C. J. Wilson and Luke Hochevar in the 2012 no-hit club, as he holds the Yankees to the goose-egg with only a walk in the 3rd inning seperating him from perfection. Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda is no slouch himself, holding the Braves scoreless until Brian McCann hits a two-run homerun with two out in the bottom of the 8th inning.

Using the IRL stats, this will be the first no-hitter pitched for the Braves in almost 20 years since Kent Merker no-hit the Dodgers in 1994. As for the Yankees, it is the first no-no against them since six Astros pitchers combined on a no-hitter in 2003. It is the first solo pitcher no-hitter against them in almost 55 years, since Hoyt Wilhelm no-hit them in 1958. It is also the 12th overall no-hitter in Braves franchise history, with four each in Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta.

History was made in Atlanta as Tim Hudson(6-1) tossed a no-hitter and the
Atlanta Braves defeated the New York (AL) Yankees by the score of 2 to
0.

Hudson provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd
at Turner Field evening. He had excellent control, walking only one. The
Atlanta players and coaches started to leave Hudson alone with his thoughts
after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled
around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an
explosion after every out. New York (AL) went down without a fight in the
9th.

Hiroki Kuroda(4-4) was charged with the loss. 'I gave it everything I had.
It's probably the greatest day of my life,' Hudson said. 'I was out there
focusing on my catcher's glove, that's all. I just concentrated on pitching
my game.'

June 12, 2012 Phillies 8, Twins 0

Kyle Kendrick pitches what is easily the best game of his so far six year career, tossing his first career shutout and setting a career high in strikeouts. The 22-38 record for the Twins is the worst won-loss record in the majors right now, but a good chunk of that record happened during their 14 game losing streak back in April when they beagn the season at 2-14.

For the Phillies this is their first appearance in Minnesota since 2004, and only the fourth series against the Twins since interleague play began 15 years ago.

June 10, 2012 Phillies 4, Orioles 1 (12)

A very well pitched game for Phillie starter Cliff Lee as he only allows one hit until the 9th inning. Problem was, that one hit was a solo homerun off the bat of Steve Tolleson which would end up being the only Oriole run of the game. It held up until the Phils finally poked a run across in the 8th inning to tie the game. It stays quiet until the top of the 12th when Jimmy Rollins plays hero and smacks a 3-run homerun over the wall for the lead, and Paps hangs on to that lead this time for the save. With the win, the Phillies avert the sweep in what would have been the first sweep by the Orioles in Baltimore since the first interleague series matchup in 1997. The Orioles did sweep a three game series from the Phillies in Philadelphia in 2009.

Big changes in the NL East division standings since the first of the month, 10 days ago, Back then, it was the Phillies in first and behind them it was (from 2nd to 4th) the Nationals 1 game behind, Atlanta 4 1/2 and the Mets 4 1/2 back. Now, the Phillies still hold first place but it goes Atlanta 1 game back, the Mets 1 1/2 and the Nats now 2 behind. That is due to records since the beginning of the month of 4-6 for the Phillies, 6-2 for the Braves, 7-3 for the Mets and 2-6 for the Nats. Simple math will tell you why things have changed so much.

June 9, 2012 Orioles 8, Phillies 5 (10)

A total of seven homeruns hit between the two teams today, with the big blows saved for the end. After Jimmy Rollins smacks a 2-run double in the top of the 9th to give the Phils a one run lead, Jonathan Papelbon can't hold that lead allowing Ryan Flaherty to rip his 2nd homer of the day over the wall to tie the game. The Phillies put the first two on in the top of the 10th and come up empty, but in the bottom of the 10th with two already out the Orioles go single, HBP and a 3-run walk off homerun for Wilson Betemit to give Paps his 4th loss of the year, along with his 7th blown save.

June 8, 2012 Orioles 4, Phillies 3

Try as they might, the Phillies can't overcome an early 4-0 defecit and fall short by a run. They don'ty go down without a fight as they get a run in the 9th, and have the tying run thrown out at home for the final out of the game. Orioles started Jake Arrieta, tied with teammate Brian Matusz for the league lead in losses with 8, doesn't break that tie and gets a win. Joe Blanton of the Phils allows the four runs and gets the loss, though only one of the runs was earned due to three errors behind him.
