April 17, 2012 Rangers 10, Red Sox 0 (Colby Lewis no-hitter)

I know I didn't decide to do a Red Sox season manually this year, but I had to post this one as Rangers starter Colby Lewis holds the Sox to no hits! In fact, Lewis faced the minimum 27 batters! A leadoff walk to David Ortiz in the 5th inning breaks up the perfect game, but next batter Kevin Youkilis grounds into a doubleplay to erase the runner. The next 13 Sox are retired in order as Lewis strikes out 11 to complete the masterpiece. Meanwhile, his teammates are smoking Sox starter Jon Lester to the tune of 7 runs in only 3 innings.

For the red-hot Rangers, after losing their first game of the year they have won 10 straight to go to their present 10-1 record. That 10-1 record ties the 1989 team for the best start in team history. A win next game to go to 11-1 will set a new record. A loss to put them to 10-2 will keep them tied with 1989 for the best start. Oddly enough, the real-life 2012 team also started 10-2 on to a 13-3 start for the best overall start in team history.

Boston fans certainly got their money's worth at Fenway Park. Colby
Lewis(2-0) pitched a rare no-hitter as the smoking-hot Texas Rangers toppled
the Boston Red Sox 10 to 0.

Lewis was spectacular. He had excellent control, walking only one. The Texas
players and coaches started to leave Lewis alone with his thoughts after the
game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you
could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion
after every out. Lewis racked up 11 strikeouts. Texas managed 17 hits in
their victory.

Jon Lester(0-2) was the loser. He was unable to control the Texas offense and
allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.

'You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than this
happening,' said Lewis, 'I don't expect it to sink in for awhile,' he said.
'I'm numb right now, I'm overwhelmed.'
