The Phils outhit Miami 12-5 for the game, and the Phils leave 13 men on base compared to only 2 for the Marlins. Phillie pinch-hitters have fared rather well for the year so far, with a .236 average (17 for 72) and 3 pinch-hit homeruns. Even the pitchers have done pretty good with the bat, overall batting .207 (24 for 116) and one homerun, that one by Cole Hamels. |

One run was the difference at Citizens Bank Park as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Miami Fins 5 to 4.
Raul Valdes(4-0) contributed a very nice performance in relief. He didn't
allow much, just 1 hit and no walks in 1 inning. Miami made it exciting in
the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Valdes got help from Jonathan Papelbon who earned his 11th save. Steve
Cishek(4-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. Ozzie Guillen was in a sour
mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the press box know why we lost
this game. We made too many mistakes.'
