May 2, 2012 Phillies 5, Marlins 4




Almost a hard-luck loss for the Phils as they oouthit Miami all game, but trail by a run 4-3 when Brian Schneider plays hero with a pinch-hit 2-run homerun in the 7th inning for what proves to be the winner. The Phils outhit Miami 12-5 for the game, and the Phils leave 13 men on base compared to only 2 for the Marlins.

Phillie pinch-hitters have fared rather well for the year so far, with a .236 average (17 for 72) and 3 pinch-hit homeruns. Even the pitchers have done pretty good with the bat, overall batting .207 (24 for 116) and one homerun, that one by Cole Hamels.

One run was the difference at Citizens Bank Park as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Miami Fins 5 to 4.

Raul Valdes(4-0) contributed a very nice performance in relief. He didn't
allow much, just 1 hit and no walks in 1 inning. Miami made it exciting in
the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Valdes got help from Jonathan Papelbon who earned his 11th save. Steve
Cishek(4-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. Ozzie Guillen was in a sour
mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the press box know why we lost
this game. We made too many mistakes.'
