May 27, 2012 Phillies 10, Cardinals 7

Phillies starter Roy Halladay goes from a loss to a possible win to no decision at all in about 1/2 of an inning. The Phillies jumped out to a 4-1 lead after 2 1/2, but Halladay falls apart and lets the Cards score 5 times in the bottom of the 3rd, which gives St. Louis a 6-4 lead. With Halladay the first batter up in the 4th, I decide to pinch-hit for him and that starts a Philly rally where they score four runs in that top of the 4th and end up with a 8-6 lead. When the inning began, Halladay was in line for the loss and he was still the pitcher of record when the Phils scored the four runs even though he was pinch-hit for, so he would now be in line for the win. But, he only pitched three innings and a starter has to go at least five innings to get a win. Antonio Bastardo (or The Bastard, as I call him) gets the win instead. The Cards do load the bases with one out in the bottom of the 9th and get the winning run to the plate, but Jonathan Papelbon entices a doubleplay to end the game.

With ther Phillie win and the Nationals losing their fifth straight game, that finally lets the Phils through the door to tie for the division lead. At least in games behind anyway. Technically, Washington still leads the division by .002 percentage points (Washington is 26-21 at .553 while the Phillies are 27-22 at .551). I did not even notice that before, I was just looking at the games behind.

At Busch Stadium the Philadelphia Phillies outscored the St. Louis Cardinals
10 to 7.

Philadelphia came up with 4 runs in the top of the 4th inning when they had 5
base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Carlos Ruiz who silenced the
stadium when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run.
Philadelphia finished with 17 hits while St. Louis ended up with 13.

The victory was credited to Antonio Bastardo(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing
no runs. Bastardo was helped out by Jonathan Papelbon who recorded his 10th
save. The losing pitcher was Adam Wainwright(2-5). Philadelphia scored big
getting 8 runs off him in 6 innings.
