May 28, 2012 Astros 17, Rockies 6

Not all non-Phillie games posted on the blog are no-hitters. The Astros score 5 runs in the 7th inning, and then do even better than that with an 8-run 9th! Of the 23 total runs in the game, 11 of them are unearned due to the four errors in the game. Rockies pitcher Carlos Torres, who pitched that dreadful 9th inning, did allow 8 runs but didn't hurt his ERA a bit as all 8 were unearned! The Astros 9th went error, single, RBI single (run unearned due to reaching on an error), sac bunt, RBI sac fly (should have been third out, so again unearned run), RBI double, wild pitch, walk, RBI walk, 3-run double, wild pitch to score a run and finally a fly out. All the runs after that sac fly, since that sac fly should have been the third out, are also unearned for all eight runs in the inning being unearned.

Those 17 runs for Houston are the second most scored in a game (the Cardinals have 18), and the combined 23 runs for both teams tied two other games for the most combined runs in a game this year so far.

WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Brian Bogusevic robbed Carlos Gonzalez of a Homerun!

Matt Downs blasted 2 homeruns as the Colorado Rockies were badly beaten by the
Houston Astros, 17 to 6.

Downs was in a groove all evening. The Colorado fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box. He ripped a solo home run in the 4th inning,
blasted a Grand Slam homerun in the 7th inning and doubled plating three runs
in the 9th inning. Houston provided plenty of action in the 7th inning with
5 runs on 4 hits and the 9th inning when they had 8 runs on 4 hits. Houston
ended up with 18 hits for the game while Colorado had 10.

The victory was credited to Brett Myers(1-1) who went 1 and 1/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Wesley Wright preserved the game for Myers, recording his
his 1st save. Matt Belisle(2-3) was the loser in relief.

'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Downs said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not
do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by game,
and pitch by pitch.'
