| In an almost identical situation to the bottom of the 9th of last game, this time it doesn't bode well for the Phillies. A leadoff double, groundout, intentional walk to set up the doubleplay, a double steal, and another intentional walk loads the bases but again set up the doubleplay. And again, that brings the pitcher to the plate. Only this time, a pinch-hitter comes in and that pinch-hitter (Mark Kotsay) rips a walk-off single to drive the winning run home. The Padres have the worst team batting average in the National League at .221. Who is next worst? The Phillies, at .224. They are not the worst two in the majors though, as Oakland is at .204 and Seattle at a miniscule .182! |
