May 9, 2012 Phillies 3, Mets 2




Two quick Met runs in the first put them in front almos tall game, but the Phils get one in the 4th and manufacture a run to tie the game in the 8th. In that 8th inning after Juan Pierre singles, he steals second base, advances to third on a groundout and scores on a single for Hunter Pence. Pierre helps with the phils walk-off win in the 9th when Rollins singles and Pierre follows wit ha single, anvancing to second on the throw to try to get Rollins at third. Shane Victorino then hits a grounder to second baseman David Wright, who muffs it for a run scoring and the walk-off error. Bobby Parnell gets the loss for the Mets despite not allowing an earned run.

The win moves the Phils into a virtual tie games behind wise with the Washington Nationals for first place in the division, but the Nats are .002 ahead of the Phils. The Nationals are 16-14, the Phils at 17-15. The .500 Atlanta Braves onl;y sit one game back.

Left fielder Juan Pierre had 4 hits as the Philadelphia Phillies won a dandy
at Citizens Bank Park over the New York (NL) Mets, 3 to 2.

Philadelphia scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. After an out was
recorded, Jimmy Rollins lashed a single. Pierre next to the plate and he
delivered a base-hit. Pierre took second on the throw. Shane Victorino then
reached on an error giving Philadelphia the win as 42,748 happy fans joyfully
celebrated. For the game Philadelphia out-hit New York (NL) 11 to 5.

The win went to Chad Qualls(2-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Bobby
Parnell(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He was the victim of a
defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
