| First, in the previous game that I was unable to blog becuase our intenrnet was messed up, the Padres won 4-1 despite Jimmy Rollins tying a career high with three stolen bases and five overall for the team. A different game today, as the Phillies bust open a tight game with four runs in the 5th inning with three doubles knocking in the four runs. They would end up needing all four of them as Papelbon again pitches a sloppy 9th inning, allows a run, but with a two run lead gets the save anyway. Starter Roy Halladay (real name Harry Leroy Halladay, BTW) continues his impressive beginning of the season, going to 4-0 with 8 innings of work. Halladay allowed his first run since Opening Day in the 4th to end his scoreless inning streak at 27 innings. It didn't hurt his ERA a bit though, as the run was unearned (although the run scored directly via an error by Halladay). The unearned run streak would go another three innings until the Pads score a run on their own in the 7th inning. In other league news, the Minnesota Twins lost their 13th straight game. Those 13 straight losses is the most since they lost 14 straight in 1982, and their current 2-13 mark is the worst start ever in Minnesota and the worst start for the franchise in almost 110 years since the 1904 Washington Senators started 1-14. |

Roy Halladay came through with a solid 8 innings as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the San Diego Padres by the score of 4 to 3 at PETCO
Park.
Halladay(4-0) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. San Diego tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Jonathan Papelbon recorded the save, his 4th. The loss was charged to Cory
Luebke(0-1). He pitched 4 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits and 2
walks.
'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals' said Bud Black after the game. 'We
lost this game today because we didn't follow the instructions every Little
Leaguer hears every day.'
