| Angels starter C. J. Wilson joins Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis in the no-no club for SOM play in 2012, as he shuts down the Blue Jays offense. At least hit-wise anyway, as he did allow four walks and the no-hitter cost him a gargantuan 171 pitches! Wislon isn't the only one to shut down the Blue Jays as in the previous game three Angels pitchers held the Jays to only one hit in another 5-0 shutout. Which means that Toronto has had a grand total of one hit in the last two games. No team has ever been no-hit in two consective games, but it has happened on consecutive DAYS. Back in 1917, two pitchers on the St. Louis Browns threw no-hitters against the White Sox, the second one being game two of a doubleheader thusly being three games with two no-hitters. Due to that fact, my guess is that the Blue Jays would most likely have tied the all-time record for the fewest hits in two consecutive games, if not set a new record. One record was broken though, and by a wide margin. With Wilson needing 171 pitches to record the no-no, that total set a new major league record for most pitches needed for a no-hitter. It easily broke the previous record of 149 pitches held by Edwin Jackson set in 2010. With Wilson only facing four over the minimum batters needed for a 9 inning game, a pitch total of over 170 pitches seems a bit surprising. |

C.J. Wilson(4-1) was on top of his game in Los Angeles(AL) as he tossed a
beauty of a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Los Angeles(AL)
Angels won by a score of 5 to 0.
Wilson was just too much for Toronto. He gave his hometown fans a game
they'll never forget! He walked 4 Toronto batters. The tension was mounting
with every inning after the 6th. Wilson appeared oblivious himself to the
mounting history until two were out in the 9th. Only then, did he allow
himself one deep sigh and a slow trip around the mound. Los Angeles(AL) had
just 5 hits for the night.
Kyle Drabek(2-2) was given the loss. 'You probably have a better chance of
winning the lottery than this happening,' said Wilson, 'I don't expect it to
sink in for awhile,' he said. 'I'm numb right now, I'm overwhelmed.'
