| Today was the oppopsite of last game. The Phillies played more than well enough to win, led most of the game including a one run lead entering the bottom of the 9th, but again Jonathan Papelbon blows it as Arizona gets two in the bottom of the 9th to win., The 9th goes two leadoff singles, a lineout, a passed ball for Carlos Ruiz to let the tying run score and the runner go to second, and a hit for pitcher David Hernandez to knock the winning run home. Despite Hernandez being a pitcher, in his one atbat all season he had a hit so his hitting card was full of singles and the Diamondbacks manager let him bat when normally there would be a pinch-hitter in a situation like that (tying and winning run on the bases, pitcher at bat). The passed ball enabled the tying run to score, and the hit knocked in the winner. Paul Goldschmidt of Arizona gets a 4 for 4 day, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He hit the lead off single in the 9th to begin the winning rally for the Diamondbacks. In other news, the Twins do it again as they lose their 16th straight when the Red Sox pound them 10-5. With the Twins falling to 2-16, that is now tied for the third worst start to a season in modern history (since 1900). The two worst are the 2003 Tigers at 1-17 and the 1988 Orioles at 0-18. |

WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Jimmy Rollins robbed Gerardo Parra of a base hit.
Bot 8th: Shane Victorino robbed John McDonald of a Homerun!
Paul Goldschmidt had 4 hits at Chase Field as the Arizona Diamondbacks staged
a comeback win over the Philadelphia Phillies by the count of 5 to
4.
Arizona scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs
on 3 hits. Goldschmidt led off and got things going when he lined a single.
Cody Ransom was next and he lined a single. After an out was recorded,
Jonathan Papelbon came to the plate and threw a pitch that got away from the
catcher. David Hernandez stepped in and he banged out a single. Arizona had
13 hits overall, while Philadelphia had 8.
Hernandez(2-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Papelbon(1-2)
was hit with the loss in relief. Hernandez and Goldschmidt were really
whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind victory. As
Kirk Gibson noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's
attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys
- it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
