| First, the game before this one I mistakenly did not blog, which was a 10-5 Nationals win. Bryce Harper hit his first major league homerun, then followed that up with his second homerun for two in the game, and Rick Ankiel also ripped two over the wall in the Nats romp. Today, Nats phenom Harper continues to show his early Rookie of the Year form with another homerun and his first major league triple in a losing cause. Cole Hamels for the Phillies does a rarity for pitchers by contributing more runs at the plate than he allowed, hitting a 2-run single while only allowing one run through 7. Ian Desmond gets a 2-run homer immediately followed by Harper's blast, both off of Brian Sanches in the 8th, to bring the Nats back to life. That brings in Papelbon for the unexpected save chance which he gets flawlessly. Four of the top six pitchers in ERA in the NL are either Phillies or Nationals, with #1 Roy Halladay at 1.15, #3 Stephen Strasburg at 1.24, toady's starter for the Phils #5 Cole Hamels at 1.64 and yesterday's starter for the Nats #6 Gio Gonzalez at 1.76. |
