May 8, 2012 Mets 5, Phillies 3

For the third time in the last six games, the Phillies outhit their opponent but end up in the loss collumn. Despite having the lead for all but the first inning Mets starter Miguel Batista did not go the required five innings to get the win, Elvin Ramirez gets it with two shutout innings of relief. Mets rookie Kirk Nieuwenhuis (harder to spell than even Saltalamacchia or Mientkiewicz) gets the best game of his very short (so far at least) career with a 3 for 4 day, and Jimmy Rollins has a 3 hit day in a losing cause for the Phillies.

Ike Davis blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the New York (NL) Mets defeated
the Philadelphia Phillies 5 to 3 at Citizens Bank Park.

New York (NL) came up with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Daniel Murphy
opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Davis stepped into the
batter's box and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run.
Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

The win went to Ramon Ramirez(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Bobby
Parnell earned the save, his 4th. Joe Blanton(0-3) ended up with the loss.

Charlie Manuel was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
