| Hoping to get a win to vault into first place, instead the Phillies run into the brick wall known as Stephen Strasburg. Strasburg is nothing short of sensational, as he retired 18 straight batters after Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a single. Strasburg goes the distance, only scattering five hits while striking out 11 in the shutout. It also vaults him to 5-0 with the sensational 1.24 ERA, third in the NL behind the 1.16 of the Reds' Johnny Cueto and the 1.15 from the Phils' Roy Halladay. Going the other way is Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick, who allows four runs in five innings and actually had his earned run average DROP to 8.85. |

WEB GEMS- Top 6th: Ian Desmond robbed Jimmy Rollins of a base hit.
Stephen Strasburg reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts and Ian Desmond
connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI as the Washington Nationals defeated
the Philadelphia Phillies 6 to 0 at Nationals Park.
Strasburg(5-0) was on top of his game. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits
and no walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 1.56 to 1.24. Washington had
a total of 11 hits for the game.
Kyle Kendrick(0-3) was the loser. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 6 hits
and 2 walks. 'Everything felt great' Strasburg said. 'I had a good fastball,
I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'
